Hiring and staffing for the new normal

During the COVID19 pandemic, private and public sector organizations have begun to re-evaluate their hiring and staffing practices for the short term and with any eye to the future. As remote teleworking technologies have proven stable and viable, staffing and job candidate options have expanded.

As Scott Sachs of SJS Solutions mused in a recent article, “Some of the benefits that come from a work from home model includes access to a broader workforce, more flexible scheduling, lower absenteeism/attrition, improved productivity, and more. Once the dust settles, organizations will need to take a step back to assure that they can take advantage of this new model and leverage its benefits in a sustainable long term manner.”

In addition to assessing business and documentation processes, organizations should also begin to revisit their current hiring practices. As remote teleworking continues as a viable option for some positions, management may want to add additional skill sets and requirements to future job postings.

  • Additional areas of consideration should include:
  • Considering expanding geographically a search for potential job candidates.
  • Designing successful and innovative remote training and retraining programs for remote workers.
  • Creating new policies and procedures to effectively manage a remote work force.
  • Addressing isolation issues and promote collaboration, gamification and team building exercises.
  • Revisiting policies on the client data privacy and security.
